I guess it depends on who is asking. Is VP of Product Management asking this question, a CEO, the Engineering Director?
It is a good question. And maybe should be asked/considered with every new assignment or new job. What I think doesn’t matter. Understanding the mindset/motivations of the person asking does.
I’m UX to the core I guess. I answer questions with questions. :)
Was listening to Pandora and comedian David Cross came on the air. And a phrase he said stuck with me throughout the day:
“running through a field of Gene Wilders hair catching butterflies or something…"
That alone compelled me to buy this URL. My impulse buying power is strong.
Soon after I was on Vine and saw Psql’s video (shown above). An idea began to take hold.I asked my friends, fellow engineers, how wonderful it would be to run through Gene Wilder’s ethereal hair. They said, “How can we make that a reality?!” and I said “The internets!” I shared with them Willy Wu’s post about Gestures and Reveal.JS. The idea was born. We’d build a service that would allow people to move Gene Wilder’s magical hair and while other people ran through the hair chasing butterflies. Of course, we’d need some kind of “Being John Malkovich” door to access Wilder’s hair. But we’re confident there is already an API for that.
Check out Willy Wu’s gestures with Hakim El Hattab’s reveal.js. Willy Wu says:
This is what I got when I combined webcam-based gesture recognition with Hakim El Hattab’s reveal.js.
It took me a while to write and fine tune the detection algorithms. Even then, the algorithms are only about 80% accurate. You get the gist of it though: + A flick of the hand in mid-air changes the slide. + A two hand flick up or down activates the slide overview.
This is as far as I’ve gotten. I’d like to think my plans and designs are as ambient and lovely as running through Gene Wilder’s hair.
“By working together in a community [in the Etsy community], these companies help to grow each other’s business inside that shared space, and grow that shared space by boosting everybody."
CV Harquail, PhD makes interesting points on digital networks with examples of how businesses have successfully grown by connecting other businesses in this TEDx talk.
I believe in sharing. Sharing is key to creating anything meaningful.
Looks like Zebra has put a priority on customer experience as followed through in the user experience and interface/interaction design. Who knew shopping for car insurance could be so fun? Zebra.com
Many think that user experience design is confined to sketching the interfaces. However, UX design is a much broader process that - ideally - starts at the strategy level and affects the whole lifecycle of a project or a business.
UX design begins by learning about the business model, doing…
